Welcome to this website, which is dedicated to professional excellence in Marine Surveying of Traditional, "Classic" and Modern Sailing Yachts and Power Boats.  Kathleen Kilbey has been in practice as a Marine Surveyor specialising in Classic Yacht Surveys since 1989.

Kathleen Kilbey has carried out many hundreds of Marine Surveys, ranging from large Classic Yachts, such as the 1936 J class  "Velsheda" (steel hull - surveyed in 1992, prior to purchase and restoration), to "Breeze" (the oldest Pilot Cutter afloat as at 1992 when first surveyed) and Large modern powerboats such as a Riva 55 surveyed on the River Thames. (For this sea-trial, special permission had to be obtained from the Port of London Authority to make a run at full speed - in excess of 35 knots).

The majority of Yacht Surveys have been carried out for prospective owners prior to purchase, or in order to build a work schedul  for restoration. Kathleen has long experience of maintaining her own classic "Buchanan 11 tonner" timber racing yacht, which was maintained in  Lloyds +100A1 class for the 14+ years of her ownership.  For much of her time in practice, her Yacht Surveyor mentor and colleague George Reohorn MYDSA of BurryPort has, with his unequalled knowledge of traditional timber yachts, provided advice and additional expertise where necessary.  (If we don't know the boat, we know a man who does!)

Kathleen has also supervised the construction of a number of large GRP vessels several of which were subsequently delivered to the Riviera by way of Biscay and Gibralter (a very good sea-trial!).

The latest instrumentation and techniques are employed as required, to produce a complete and accurate report on each and every vessel surveyed. (although as George says, you can't beat a "Mark1 eyeball!")
